Paul McKnespiey raised the issue of surplus money in the bank account. Various ideas were discussed for spending this to the benefit of all members.
Cross Country League 2017
The club spent £100 for entry into the mid-Lancs cross country league.
As in previous years, the secretary will ask for nominations from members.
Lindsay Graham to arrange refreshments.
London Ballot Due to feedback from members and after further discussion, it was decided that attendance at the AGM this year is not mandatory for entry into the club ballot. However, it will be announced at the AGM that from next year (AGM date 24/11/18) that attendance will be mandatory.
Between now and the AGM, we need to stress the importance of attendance to the members. The committee discussed making the parkrun on AGM date a Club Championship event. Sarah Hamilton to email members asking for interest in committee positions for 2017/2018.
Existing committee members to also email Sarah stating their interest for next year.
We agreed to create a new role of Cross Country Coordinator and Club Championship Coordinator.
It was proposed that we revert to the male/female reps also being Club Captains. This was rejected by the committee.
DH Club is booked. Places limited to 150. Cost £5 per ticket and all sold via Entry Central(ACTION _
KEV MULVEY) with the club paying the processing fee. DJ and buffet are booked.
Club Captains/Runners of The Year
Names were discussed and voted on. These will be announced at the Christmas Party.
England Athletics (EA) are raising their fee to £15. As such our club fees will be £35 (£25 6months)
and £20 (£10 6months) for 2017/2018.
The club has been approached about possible twinning with a foreign running club. The committee
agreed unanimously this was a good idea.
30.09.2017, Cafe Nero
Ca. 20 members took part.
There was a short round of everyone introducing themselves (name, Tuesday or Thursday group, upcoming races to train for).
Talk about Club Runs
mainly about Thursday runners who would like to join Tuesdays, but feel under pressure to keep up suggestion: After the You Can Run + course has finished there could be an introduction session, where those Thursday runners could have a go on a Tuesday. Maybe a Bridge-to-Bridge run or an Out-and-Back with loops, which takes off the pressure to run the full distance if they struggle
Helen Cupac and Nicola Jackson offered to help as back marker at those sessions, as they arefamiliar faces and take pressure off the pace. Lucy Jackson offered to help too. Those session could be organized after every You Can Run+ course. Or even more regularly every 8 weeks? Kathryn Holiday offered to volunteer as an accompanying runner at any Tuesday run if there is the need for it. But she asks that the newbie runner would have to commit to staying with her for the whole run, she had made bad experience with losing a runner and complaints afterwards.
There was the enquiry if the Wednesday speed sessions would start again? Lindsay mentioned probably after half term (Andrew said during committee meeting that it would be difficult due to his shifts.)
Talk about Club Social Life
Is there an interest in social activities with club members apart from running?
ladies walk on bank holidays
mid-week picnics (in summer, like Rosie’s pre wedding)
run, walk or little trip on 100-Years-Women’s-Right-To-Vote day
parkrun trips, e.g. Whinlatter
Wineathlon bus trip, no date yet.
Other questions and infos
24h relay probably in August when Pirelli shuts down
Enquiry if there could be links to races on our website? – Referred to Run ABC Magazine for race dates and infos. But maybe there could be an info box in the newsletter with links to upcoming local/Cumbrian races?
Gazebo: Has arrived but not yet been used.
ANDREW GRAHAM proposed that the club buy scanners to make the timing/finishing of races
easier. These will be priced up.
There being no other business the meeting was adjourned at 1225.
