3 Welcome from the Chair and Report
“Welcome and thank you for taking the time to attend today, this is your club so it’s really important that we have the opportunity to meet like this.
The last 12 months have been incredibly busy, so many running events and achievements!
It’s been a frustrating year for me personally as injury has kept me out of running for most of it, this however has given me more opportunities to support and cheer on members on at events. Notable events were the 3 villages 5, I don’t think I have ever been so wet supporting an event and the Lakeland 50/100.
During the past 12 months you have achieved many running goals:
Again, we have had race winners, age category winners, personal achievements such as first 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon, 30 miler, 50 miler, and 100 miles.
I don’t like to mention too many names in case I miss someone out, but I would like to mention some of the runners who stepped up to complete Ultra Marathons for the first time:
LL50 – Laura Farmer, Clare Ferguson, Mike Dobson, Alison Pescod, Kerrie Fiddler
LL100 – Mike Shaw, Martin Curran
CWU – Pat Gallagher
DH Runners members have again been raising money for charities all year, fundraising whilst running can be a massive motivation for many people. The charities supported include:
1. NHS Charities Together
2. The Stroke Association
3. People First
4. Eden Valley Hospice
5. Refuge
6. The Calvert Trust
7. Kidney Care UK
8. Carlisle Food Bank
Big thank you for all the fundraising and volunteering that you are doing as individuals.
YCR has again helped to support new or returning runners, with 2 cohorts this year.
We have now got 202 members of all abilities, all of whom are enjoying representing our club.
I would like to thank all the Run Leaders for the work they put in planning and leading the groups. It’s been particularly challenging this year as many of the core team of Run Leaders for Tuesdays have been injured so most of the planning has been done by Andy Baker and Tony Mills.
A big thanks to all the 2022/23 committee members for their valuable contribution to the club. Both Run Leaders and Committee Memberships give up their time freely to help run the club.
Thanks to outgoing Committee members Steve Claringbold, Andrew Graham, Tony Mills, Emma Taylor and Julie Dodd.
Finally, and most importantly a big thank you to everyone for being part of the club! I would like to wish everyone another 12 months of enjoyable and successful running and supporting.”Big thank you for all the fundraising and volunteering that you are doing as individuals.

5 Run Group Reports
Given by Cath Wood. We continue to have two run group nights. Tuesday night offers an 10k route (with 10k having to be completed within 75 minutes) and also offers an 8 mile route. Each week is a different route. Thursday night offers a 5k route and a 5 mile route. The same route is used two weeks in a row. This year the Thursday group turned 8. We have had 2 sets of You Can Run, so congratulations go to the graduates from these courses. We will be holding a new Your Cn Run course in the New Year. Thanks was given to the Run Leaders for running these run groups..
6 Run Group Survey
Feedback was shared from the survey which had gone out in July/August to paid up members, at that time there were 174 members. Responses were received from 57, which was response rate of 33%. A sub group of the committee had met and looked at the responses. They drew up an Action Plan which has been shared with the Committee. We realised we needed more active Run Leaders, some of the actions rely on having more Run Leaders. A group of members have recently started training to be Run Leaders, anyone else interested to undertaking the training to give their names to the secretary at the end of the meeting. The newsletter has been re-introduced and with the proposed change in the constitution we will appoint a Social Secretary. The results from the survey and Action Plan will be posted on the website. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact the club through the Club Captains or the contact form on the website

10 London Marathon Ballot Draw
The number of entries given to each club is based on the number of first-claim registered competitive members with England Athletics who are over the age of 18. We have been allocated 1 place. To take part in our draw, members had to provide their ‘not this time’ email from the official TCS London Marathon and had to be present at the AGM.
We had 9 people in the draw: John Billet, Frances Braithwaite, Gary Chandler, Kerrie Fiddler, Jill Harding, Kathryn Holliday (who withdrew her name before the draw), Michael Holliday, Amanda Kirtley and David Wood.
Mark Moore, who had the last DH Club London Marathon Place, drew out the name – the winner was David Wood. Congratulations David.
10 AOB
- A proposal was made that whoever wins the Club Championship and receives the annual shield could also be given a memento to keep marking the occasion. The Committee will consider this suggestion and look at the costs involved as it felt this should also apply to other winners of the other awards. Also, it was asked if the third and second places in the Championship could also receive recognition, the Committee has already agreed that certificates should be awarded.
- It was asked if Run Backs could be re-introduced at Thursday Run Groups. This had also been highlighted in the Run Group Survey. The Committee have agreed that at the moment Run Backs could be re-introduced on an ad hoc basis when Run Leaders deemed it necessary. It will be discussed further with a meeting of Run Leaders when the new group of Run Leaders have completed their training.
- It was asked if we would have the return of the DH 24-hour relay. This will be considered. It had been looked at for happening this year but was difficult to find a suitable weekend with the various events and training members were doing in the summer.
- Club Track nights will hope to be held in the New Year.
- The River Run will return next year at its usual time in October. It had been held in February this year and had been intended to go ahead in October but was postponed due to the closure of the footpath.
- Club Kit – there has been some difficulty in obtaining some of our items from our usual supplier. We have been looking at different suppliers. This will be ongoing. Everyone will be updated when we have some news.
- A request was made that in the future when the draw takes place for the London Marathon Ballot if could it be changed so that you wouldn’t have to be present to take place in the draw if you had to be at work. The Committee had discussed this at length prior to this meeting and a vote had been taken and it had been agreed that anyone taking part in today’s vote had to be present. The Committee will address this again prior to the next AGM.
