Welcome to the latest edition of our DH newsletter. We’ve had a very busy month taking part in lots of amazing events and of course, organising our River Run 10k.
On Sunday 27th October, we held our third River Run 10k. It was a brilliant day and we were so lucky with the weather!
Holmehead House again provided us with the perfect venue for Run HQ, Registration and post run refreshments.
Congratulations to Mark Emmerson for coming first. Mark ran an amazing PB to achieve his first ever race win! Awesome!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped out in the planning of the event as well as the delivery and afterwards.
It takes a lot of planning and organisation to put in the River Run and we pride ourselves on making the event a memorable day for every runner and volunteer.
So some huge thank yous to:
-Chivers Sports for donating our Male and female 1st prizes.
-The River Run Planning group led by Simon
-All of our amazing volunteers who facilitated set up, close down, registration and marshalled the course
-Sarah who co-ordinated our volunteers
-Holmehead House and Timing Up North
-Everyone who took part in the run
-Everyone who came to support
-local running clubs especially Derwent AC and Cumberland AC who chose our event as one of their club championship races
-Sheila from Cumberland Athletics for being our run official for the third year in a row
-Everyone who baked and donated cakes for the buffet
-A special thank you to Suzanne who made 36 amazing cupcakes despite having a close family bereavement.
Well done to everyone who supported Watchtree’s first ever Halloween 5k run.
Watchtree is an amazing local resource which provides our community with a safe place to run as well as access other exercise including walks and cycling.
There is a lovely little cafe and great opportunities to see local wildlife.
Watchtree also provide a free 5k or 10k run every Sunday morning.
This is a gentle reminder that if you are attending the Monday, Tuesday or Thursday groups, from October until about March, we ask all attendees to wear high visibility clothing. This can be reflective wear and fluorescent vests or tops.
We want all members to be safe when running in our groups, so please be mindful of this and try to dress as brightly as possible. Thank you.
Our 2019 club championship standings have been updated..... with only two events left, Carlisle parkrun on 16th November and Langdale Christmas Pudding Run on 7th December, you can see the updated standings here.
This year our club charity has been Eden Valley Hospice and we have done lots of fundraising including our 24hr relay and selling car stickers.
We have sent an email round asking for nominations for next year’s charity so please check to it spam folders if you haven’t received yours.
At the year end, we will reveal our grand total raised for Eden Valley Hospice.
If you are interested in learning more about our club newsletter and would like to join our newsletter gang, we are having a ‘Newsletter Coffee Club’ on Sunday 10th November. We will be meeting at 2pm at Cafe Nero. All welcome.
On Saturday 7th December we are holding our annual DH Runners awards night and Christmas celebration.
For those of you who are newer to the club, this night is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow club members and celebrate the past year.
We have a number of different awards that are presented including DH Runner of the Year, DH Beginner of the Year and DH Members Member Of the Year. There are also some fun awards and the announcement of our Club Championship winners.
Tickets cost £5.00 and include an amazing buffet, disco and a free entry to our raffle! Tickets are available here.
Carlisle Santa Dash is on Sunday 8th December.
As usual we will be working with Carlisle Tri Club and Sport in Action to organise the event. This year members of Runmums and Border Reivers are also lending a hand- a great collaborative between local running clubs!
We have been in the city centre promoting the santa dash and it was great to meet lots of people interested in taking part.
We will also be in the city centre on Sunday 17th December and Sunday 1st December promoting. If you have an hour or two to spare, please come along and help us spread the word.
If anyone would like to volunteer to Marshall on the day of the run, please let Lindsay know.
On Saturday 16th November after our Carlisle parkrun club championship run, we are holding our AGM. The AGM is being held at Morton Manor and will start about 10:15am once everyone has finished parkrun and had time to get a cuppa. Our constitution states that we need 20% of members to attend so we appreciate if you can spare an hour of your Saturday morning to help.
If attending our AGM you will be given a ticket to get a free tea or coffee and piece of cake.
At the AGM we will report on developments from the past year, give an treasury update and vote on the new committee.
Every year our official run groups take a break at Christmas.
Our last groups in December will be Tuesday 17th, Thursday 19th and Monday 23rd December.
Groups will start back from Thursday 2nd January...
On the 29th December we will be holding our annual Christmas 10k handicap.
A handicap is where all the participants plan to finish as near to 10am as possible therefore everyone has different start times.
You choose your own start time based on how long you think it will take you to run 10k working backwards form the finish time of 10am.
Afterwards there will be mulled wine and Christmas nibbles at Lindsays.
You are hearing this first!!!!
Our next You Can Run course will start on Thursday 2nd January and will run for 6 weeks.
You Can Run is an amazing course which supports attendees to build up their running ability from walking while meeting new people and making friends.
This year we are going to do an extra promotion to encourage people who have stopped running to start again.... please watch out for our social media and help us spread the word.
You Can Run costs £10 so would also make an excellent Christmas gift!!!
That’s all for now folks.... please remember all members are welcome to contribute to our club newsletter including race reports and running stories and we look forward to seeing you soon. Happy running!
