Monday 21st December 2015
As we roll into the week of Christmas this will be your final round-up for the year.
December is a busy month for many and it also sees the cancellation of a few events up and down the country. As such our proposed Christmas Pudding Run in Great Langdale on Saturday 5th December was the first to suffer the effects of a few weeks of terrible weather. As many will remember this was the day of the DH Runners Christmas Party and Awards night. Sadly it was also the beginning of a turbulent time for others who suffered flood damaged housing over that weekend.
As a group it’s been awesome to see everyone rally around those affected and hopefully that will continue as they settle into new temporary accommodation and, eventually, move back to their homes. I’ve also heard on the grapevine that Andy Baker is branching out into shed demolition so if that’s a service you need then just give him a shout.
Notable mentions from the awards night:
Matt Begg the outgoing runner of year handed over to incoming runner of the year Lindsay Mechie.
In club championship news following the cancellation of the final run at Great Langdale our winners were Paul Graves for the men and Julie Story for the women.
Outgoing club captains Andy Baker and Michelle Mackay handed over to incoming captains Tony Mills and Emma Richardson
And finally, our beginners runner of the year was the one and only Helen Cupac.
Just one event has taken place so far that I’m aware of and that was this weekend’s Cumberland Fell Runners Christmas Pudding Race which took place on Sunday 20th December.
Andrea Young, Nina Errington, Rachel Lee, Mark Drummond and Kate Whalen finally managed to run for pudding. Well done guys, hope the pudding was nice.
Going into the new year there are a few events that may interest you:
On Thursday 7th January we will again be running a six week You Can Run course for complete beginners. If you know anyone who may be interested then ask them to get in touch asap as places are filling up fast.
On the 16th January there is a 10 mile trail race in Askham which is raising funds for the Cumbria Community Foundation Flood Appeal. More details for that can be found at www.granddayoutcumbria.org.uk
On the 17th January there will be a group of DH Runners heading to Inskip for the Inskip Half Marathon. I’ve heard that there’s hotpot once you’ve finished which is certainly an incentive to get to the finish line.
Finally, if you haven’t seen it already there’s a video online of photos throughout the year to highlight our year of running as a group. If you haven’t already checked it out you can find it here: http://youtu.be/BrKa6bQvj1U
It goes without saying that we, at DH Towers, wish you a happy, healthy and safe Christmas. Enjoy the festivities.
Friday 4th December 2015
Welcome once again to another round-up of results and events.
As always we'll start with Carlisle parkrun which has been wet and windy the past couple of weeks. Despite this we had PB's on November 21st from Kirsty Mahoney, Mark Drummond, Andrew Bailey, Tracey Pagin, Nicola Jackson and Christine Alcock.
And on yet another terrible day weather wise we had a PB from Marie Sparkes on November 28th.
Good effort in the conditions guys and congratulations.
On November 29th Kev Scott headed over to the North East for the Northumberland Big 10 miler. Kev finished in position 20 in a time of 1:07.32 in blustery conditions. Kev said afterwards that it was “wet, windy, cold and hilly.” Again, considering the conditions that's a solid effort.
Upcoming we have Great Langdale Xmas Pudding 10k on Saturday 5th December.
Also on Saturday 5th December we have the eagerly anticipated DH Runners party. Eat hard, Drink hard, Go home (in a taxi).
And Finally: Congratulations to Matt Begg who won the club ballot for a place in next year’s Virgin Money London Marathon. Training starts soon Matt!!!
Also congratulations go to Emma Richardson for once again flying the DH Runner flag internationally by getting into next year’s Berlin Marathon.
That's it for this week. Short and sweet just like me.
Until next time happy running. Steve.
