Welcome again to another round-up of events and results.
We’ll start as always with Carlisle parkrun.

On Saturday 17th October we had PB’s for Carl Deane, Jodie Laird, Gillian Smith, Simon Dolman, Stu Windsor, Gordon Beattie, Andy Baker, Stephen Weston, Kirsty Mahoney, Annie Stumpf, Sophie Wardle, Sarah Wardle and Rebecca Birkett.
Finally on Saturday 24th October we had PB’s for Kirsty Mahoney, Carol Douglas, Mark Drummond, Mel Warwick and Andy Shannan.
The Magic Mile took place again at The Sheepmount on Saturday 17th October. Results can be found at Magic Mile Oct 2015
In other news on 17th October (busy day) a handful of DH Runners attended the Carlisle Sports Awards where we were awarded the judges Special Award.
Deryck Hutchinson was over in Lake Maggiore for the marathon on the 18th. This was Deryck’s 60th marathon and he completed it in a time of 5:28.03. Deryck said that he would’ve been sub five hours had it not been for some cramp in his hamstring. Nevertheless our congratulations go to Deryck for completing 60 marathons.
Adrienne Harris was doing the Bristol and Bath marathon on Sunday 25th October finishing in a time of 5:08.55.
Myself and Paul Graves were over in Dublin for the Dublin Marathon. To sum it up it was a tough day at the office. The wind picked up in the second half which was a struggle to say the least.
Paul finished in 2:43.18.
While I crossed the finish line with a time of 3:58.31
Neither of us got the time we’d hoped for but head down and on to the next one.
We pass on our best wishes to Andrew Bailey and Emma Richardson who are taking part in the New York Marathon at the weekend. Keep focus, run strong and take a bite out of the big apple.
Tickets are now on sale for the Christmas party on 5th December at the Denton Holme Conservative Club. The club is subsidising part of your ticket price so tickets are a steal at £3.00
Until Next Time - Happy Running
Go Hard Or Go Home
Monday 12th October 2015
Welcome to another round-up of events and results. It’s been another busy old start to the month.
We’ll start as always with Carlisle parkrun and PB’s to update for September 26th and October 3rd.
On Saturday September 26th we had PB’s from Mark Drummond, Olly Ewbank, Sandra Kay and Natalie Kay.
On Saturday October 3rd PB’s came from Kirsty Mahoney, Joanne Graves and Sandra Kay.
Nice work everyone but special shout out goes to Sandra Kay for her dual PB efforts.
In other parkrun news Kev Scott was at Workington parkrun on 26th September and finished fourth with a time of 18:17 which is a new 5k pb for Kev.
There’s an update from the end of September where, on September 27th, a small team of DH Runners did the Stoneybeck 10k which was an event put on by Eden Runners.
Stu Windsor came second overall with an impressive time of 36:53.
David MacGillivray finished with a time of 44:57 and finished first in his age category. David said that he really enjoyed the course but it was hilly in places.
Susan Fawkes and Steve Viney finished side by side with a time of 47:12. Steve finished second in his age category.
Julie Story finished with a time of 50:49 and Louise Duffy was close behind with a time of 51:10.
Mel Warwick came in with a time of 56:39.
Neil Scott finished with a time of 59:10
Carol Douglas came in with a time of 60:35 closely followed by Karl Douglas with a time of 61:12.
Sunday 4th October saw a home turf run with plenty of DH Runners toeing the start line of The Cumbrian Run. There were some half marathon veterans on the start line in the red and black but some of our runners from the beginners group were taking part in their first ever half marathon.
Notable mentions go to:
Paul Graves who completed the course in 1:14.36 in position 5
Michael Holliday who finished 10th with a time of 1:19.04
Stu Windsor who finished in position 14 with a time of 1:20.11
Ian Harkness who finished in position 18 with a time of 1:21.10
Anni Stumpf who finished in position 50 with a time of 1:27.26 (2nd in her category)
And those who messaged me with their times:
Kev Scott who finished in a time of 1:25.41 in position 35 (This is a record breaking third time Kev has racked up this time in a half marathon, just got to shave that extra second off for a new PB Kev).
Richard Henry who finished in 1:51.21 in position 454 (PB)
Congratulations also to those from our beginners group who finished their first half marathon.
Speaking to people after the run it seems some surpassed what they hoped, some were right on the money while some just missed out and some didn’t have the run they hoped. The main thing is, everyone finished and have a half marathon under their belt. Well done to everyone.
Over in Chester Stephen ‘Wes’ Weston was taking part in the Chester Marathon. Wes completed the course in what he described as ‘a solid effort’ in 2:49.23. Now his sights are set on Valencia Marathon in November.
Coming up we have participation in Lake Maggiore Marathon, Italy on Sunday 18th October. Dublin Marathon on Monday 26th October, New York Marathon on Sunday 1st November and Valencia on Sunday 15th November. DH Runners are truly taking it global over the next few months.
A couple of updates and some info:
We have recently updated our running group guidelines for you all to take a look at. If you have any questions regarding the guidelines please drop us a message.
London Marathon ballot is upon us. We have applied for, and been granted, one club place.
If you wish to enter the ballot please message Club Secretary Sarah Hamilton.
Then, if you received a rejection email please forward that on to Club Secretary Sarah Hamilton.
If you received a rejection magazine in the post we will need to physically see this before you are entered into the ballot.
All entries need to be received by Sarah no later than 31st October and the ballot is only eligible for club members up to 30th September this year.
We would ask that anyone taking part in the ballot has a genuine intention to take part in the 2016 London Marathon. If your intention is to win a place in the ballot and then defer then we ask that you do not take part. Understandably this would be unfair to anyone with a genuine wish to train for and take part in the 2016 London Marathon.
Magic Mile is Saturday coming (17th October) at The Sheepmount with kick-off from 12pm.
Finally, if you want to enter the Great Langdale Xmas Pudding race we’ve heard on the grapevine that entry will close on 1st November or whenever places sell out (whichever comes first) as this is the last race in the club championship if you want to race and haven’t signed up yet then get amongst it sharpish.
