Over in Blackpool Mark Drummond and Andrea Young were taking part in the Blackpool 10k.
Mark finished with a time of 54:32 in position 112
Andrea finished with a time of 56:12 in position 138
After the run Mark posted this photo showing a comparison of last year and this year:
Mark wanted to point out how much the beginners group has helped him over the past year and what a wonderful group of people he’s met as a result. He's certainly made amazing strides since his first foray down to Thursday beginners.
With that being said it’s a great segue to introducing our next You Can Run sessions. These will begin this Thursday 5th May. Places are limited to 20 this time around and are already going fast so if you know of anyone who you think would be interested in taking part then let them know as soon as possible.
One omission from the results last time to mention was that Michelle Mackay also took part in the Hawkshead trail 10k finishing in a time of 1:40.02.
Upcoming we have participation in Sunderland10k and Sunderland Half Marathon this weekend. Good luck to everyone taking part. Also, if you’re taking part in the club championship then the next run is coming up at Moorclose on 10th May. For your results to be accepted into the club championship Sarah will need your membership forms by the day of the Moorclose 10k. You’ve been warned!!!
Until next time, Happy Running

Wednesday 13th April 2016
A bit to catch up on this time around so let’s crack on shall we?
On the 2nd of April we held our first Club Championship run at Carlisle parkrun. Following this the Club Championship Standings have been published thanks to Andy Baker and a run-down of the top three in both categories is as seen below:
Men Top 3
Steve Viney – 77.65
Paul Graves – 77.47
Lindsay Mechie – 73.53
Ladies Top 3
Anni Stumpf – 72.73
Jo Hazell – 70.24
Sandra Kay – 69.64
On the 3rd of April Kirsty Mahoney took part in her first half marathon at the Berlin Half Marathon. Kirsty finished in a time of 2:23.33. Kirsty has improved immensely since joining our beginners group much in part due to her determination.
Congratulations go to Richard Henry for completing his first ultra-distance race at the Kielder 50k on Sunday the 10th of April. Richard finished in an impressive time of 6:28.50.
Also on Sunday the 10th of April we had competitors taking part in the Manchester Marathon. Some runners were happy with their times while others were disappointed but it’s safe to say that we’re proud of all of them. Results are below:
Ian Harkness – 3:00.02
Mike Holliday – 3:04.16
Michael Irving – 3:05.36
Matt Tyson – 3:07.54
Kev Scott – 3:16.53
Dan Mullinder – 3:27.17
Tony Mills – 3:27.19
Lucy Lamb – 3:29.55
Susan Fawkes – 3:38.55
Andy Baker – 3:44.50
Steve Claringbold – 3:56.49
Anthony Nicholson – 4:10.10
Julie Story – 4:12.25
Heather Rowe – 4:33.15
There were definitely a few PB’s in there so congratulations to all of those who achieved one and congratulations to those who completed their first marathon in the process.
Also taking part in the relay were Nicola Jackson and Kathryn Holliday both doing their first half marathons on the day. The two of them were running as Team Eric’s Girls
Nicola finished in a time of 2:18.31 and Kathryn completed in 1:57.10 for a total team time of 4:16.41
If I can wax lyrical for a moment…the great thing I keep seeing about DH Runners is when groups of people get together to achieve a goal. I’m sure when Kirsty, Nicola and Kathryn first started running with the beginners group they never dreamt of doing a half marathon and yet here they are all having completed their first.
A shout-out goes to all the support crew who turned up on the day and appeared all around the course. It’s that little shout out, however fleeting, that can keep you going for the next few miles.
Also, a special shout out to Andy Baker. If you don’t know him, and I’m sure most of you do, Andy is one of our run-leaders and one of our early adoptees of Tuesday night running group. Andy was also instrumental in the inception of the Beginners group on a Thursday as well as being our first Male Captain. So it was special moment for all of us to see him complete (and smash) his debut marathon with a time of 3:44.50.
Upcoming we have participation at Lancaster Three Bridges 10k, Keswick AC Round the Houses 10k and London Marathon. Entries are also now open for our second club championship run, Moorclose 10k.
Good luck and best wishes to those taking part in London. Enjoy the day.
