Welcome back to the round-up of results and events. As per usual I’ve taken a break during the school holidays so we have a couple of months to catch up with. So let’s not mess about and get straight down to it.
The Ultimate Trails 55k in Ambleside saw attendance from Michael Irving (finishing in 6:20.45), Lucy Lamb (7:27.10), Brian Hazelwood (9:37.54) and Andy Baker (9:38.07). For some this was a test before taking part in the Lakeland 50/100.
Perennial (look it up) event attendee Paul Todd was over in the Isle of Arran for the Isle of Arran Half Marathon on Sunday 2nd July. Paul finished in 1:59.54 in is 15th Half Marathon since taking up running a few years ago.
The DH Cummersdale Loop Relay (loosely titled The Cummder Run by some…ok, just me) took place over the weekend of 1st and 2nd of July. The running started at Midday on the Saturday and went right through until after Midday on the Sunday). So far £2,236 has been raised for our charity of the year, Carlisle and Eden Mind. Given the event was such a success and enjoyed by all it probably won’t surprise you to hear that we’re thinking of doing it again next year. Watch this space.
Taking part in the Bridges of Tyne 5 Mile Race on Tuesday 4th July were Kev Scott and John McGibbon. Kev finished in 30:30 with John in 36:08. John said afterewards that it was, “A nice run along the banks of the Tyne.“
Also on Tuesday 4th July was the Lambfoot Loop 10k. Caroline Evans turned up to this one finishing in 45:58 and bagging a PB in the process. After the race she said, “It was wet and hilly, but great fun.”
On Saturday 8th July Kev and I took part in the Ullswater Triathlon. Both of us completed the sprint distance with Kev finishing in 1:35.31 and myself in 2:01.47.
The Great North 10k in Gateshead took place on Sunday 9th July. A small group of DH Runners headed down with the results as follows:
David Wilson – 47:00, Mark Drummond – 56:49, Seema Ritson – 58:16, Wayne Stevens – 1:00.50
Rebecca Wilson – 1:03.27, Mary Messenger – 1:04.11, Rachel Webster – 1:06.42, Lisa Postlethwaite – 1:06.53, Nicola Jackson – 1:13.00, Karen Rome – 1:14.09 and Lucy Jackson – 1:14.45
The Moffat 15k took place on Tuesday 11th July with Paul Graves finishing second in 53:54 and Ian Harkness finishing 8th in 58:38.
Sunday 16th July saw Andrew Pescod and Rachel Lee take part in the Hexham Half Marathon. Andrew completed in 1:49.34 with Rachel finishing in 2:20.17.
Also on the 16th was the Windmill Half Marathon in Lytham St Annes. Paul Todd, Mark Drummond and Andrea rocked up to this one. Paul finished in 2:06.35, Mark in 2:08.11 and Andrea in 2:13.45.
Wednesday 19th July saw a midweek run from David MacGillivray who was taking part in the Wellington Hall 10k. David finished in 47:02 in 25th and said afterwards that, “The grounds and gardens at the place were lovely. “
On Saturday 22nd July Heather Eccles defended her position as ladies champion at Music on the Marr Round the reservoir race winning it for a second year in a row.
On Sunday 23rd of July Mark Drummond took part in the Spanish city Tri held in Whitley Bay. Mark completed the course in 1:41.11 (Swim 21:04, Bike 44:51, Run 32:30).
Taking part in the Glendue Fell Trail Race on Tuesday 25th July was John McGibbon who completed in 32:09. John also got the prize of four bottles of craft Allendale ale for finishing in 5th.
Over the weekend of 28th to 30th July a few DH Runners took part in the Montane Lakeland 50/100. The 100 starts in Coniston at 6pm on the Friday with the 50 starting in Dalemain on the Saturday at 11:30.
Completing the 100 were Michael Holliday – 26:15.01 (19th) and Michael Irving – 26:29.42 (22nd) both finishing well before the 40 hour cut off.
The 50 saw attendance from Lucy Lamb – 10:55.35,

all finishing well in advance of the 24 hour cut off. Hats off to you all for completing a tough event. After the event many of the competitors wanted to convey thanks to the DH Runners who turned up to marshal the event as well as those who came to support.
Rounding off July we had David MacGillivray taking part in the Great Dun Fell Sportive on Sunday 30th. Finishing in 3hrs 20 mins he said afterwards, “I Decided to enter this at last minute – borrowed a bike and went for it. I only did the 35 mile route but with that climb it was enough.”
To kick off August we had Kev Scott taking part in the Lancaster Riverside 10 miler on Sunday 6th. Kev finished in 67:40.
Also on Sunday 6th we had some representation locally at the Carlisle Tri Club Triathlon.

Saturday 12th August saw a group of DH Runners head down to Gateshead for the annual trip to the Gateshead Trail 10k.
Lynn Connolly, Tracy Pagin, Mark Drummond, Lindsay Graham, Andrea Young, Rachel Lee, Elaine Doran, Diane Graham, Tracey Sowerby, Helen Cupac, Frances Braithwaite, Kate Whalen, Adrienne Harris, Carole Holdich, Tracy Beckett and Sharron Bil were all representing Little Kenya.

Well done all. On Sunday 13th August Matt Charlton and Caroline Evans took part in the Darlington 10k. Both of them managed a PB with Matt finishing in 37:20 and Caroline in 44:50. Matt said afterwards, “Great 10k, mainly flat and fast with a good quality field to drag you round. It was slightly too warm but can’t complain with a big PB.” While Caroline said, “Great race, if a bit warm. Third time running this course and it’s always a well organised event with lots of support all the way round to help push me to a new PB.”
During the weekend of 19th and 20th September I headed down to Hull to take part in the Hell On The Humber endurance event. Otherwise known as HOTH this is a 24hr, 12hr or 6hr endurance event which comprises of running a 4 mile loop back and forth along the Humber Bridge. The caveat is that you must complete at least one loop every 3 hours. My event was the 12 hour event start at 7pm Saturday until 7am Sunday and during that time I managed to complete 52 miles. It was a strangely enjoyable event.
On Sunday 20th Lindsay Mechie and Matthew and Kathrny Holliday headed down to Lancaster to take part in the Riverside Half Marathon. Lindsay finished 11th with a time of 1:26.10. Matthew Holliday completed in 1:45.47 and Kathryn made a triumphant return to the event finishing in 1:58.16.
Sunday 27th August saw the Sport in Action 10k take place. With it being a club championship run this was a well turned out event for the DH Runners. The Sport in Action Carlisle City 10k Series also ended with the Sport in Action 10k. Kev Scott won the Male Vet 40 Category and Bethany Duffy took home the Female Junior prize. While Steve Viney topped the Male Vet 60 Category and Sara Milburn won the Female Vet 60 Category. Well done all.
Coming up in September we have the Golden Ball 20 miler, Gosforth 10k, Matfen 10k, English Half Marathon and The Great North Run to name a few.
